10 Ways to Machine Bind Your Quilt



Want to learn how to machine bind your quilt with professional looking results? This one session class will teach you ten different ways to machine bind your quilts! A blend of demonstration and hands-on practice will have you machine binding like a professional in no time! A kit of all the materials needed for the class is available for purchase online or in the store. 

Bring the following already prepared:

  • 12 quilt sandwiches approximately 10” x 4” (recommend muslin so can write notes directly on sample) Straight stitch around all sides at ¼”, trim neatly.
  • 8 – 2” wide x 15” strips for binding (press in half, wrong sides together)
  • 2 – 2 ¼” wide x 15” strips for binding (press in half, wrong sides together)
  • 1 – 1 ½” wide x 15” strip for piping
  • 1 – 2” x 15” strip for binding (not pressed in half)
  • 1 to 2 sets of coordinating strips; for each set cut 1 @ 1 5/8” and 1 @1 3/8” wide
  • 1 yd of 1/16” cording for piped binding (recommend Susan Cleveland’s)
  • Fusible thread Water soluble thread Monofilament thread
  • Basic colored thread for needle and bobbins to work with binding samples
Also needed: Sewing machine with table extension Basic sewing supplies, ie, pins, scissors, etc 3 extra bobbins for winding monofilament, fusible and water soluble threads Feet for sewing machine: walking/even feed foot, edge stitch foot (has blade down center for foot) ie, Bernina #10/10C, foot with 2mm tunnel for couching cording, ie, Bernina #23, open toe foot (open in front of needle for visibility), ie, Bernina #20/20C, flat fell foot (optional) ie, Bernina #71 25MM clover bias tape maker Sharp pointed stylus (really helpful!) Pillow(s) to sit on Paper and pencil for notes

Note: Not all 10 methods will be sewn in class. All methods will be demonstrated by instructor.
